Day Nine:

Exotic Bet of the Day:

12-15 NEWCASTLE – DAGIAN@14/1 -UNPLACED

1-10 LEICESTER – WENCESLAUS@7/2 -RACE ABANDONED

12-15 CATTERICK – SILKSTONE@13/2 – 2nd

1-35 CATTERICK – WITHAM@10/1 – UNPLACED

(Day’s P/L = -0.05pts)

Silkstone gave us a run and was perhaps scuppered by softening ground again. Rained a fair bit over night. Looked a possible two out if the leader faltered which he didn’t. And Silkstone found a bog through which he squelched to finish an honourable second. If you had fun watching, then you did better than me. I thought it was torture! On to the shortlist at Sedgefield but sadly a case of don’t hold your breath. The January dirge of dire racing continues. Just that I’ll be there in person to watch it this time! Weekend promises slightly better.

Day Ten:

(SEDGEFIELD SHORTLIST FYI): RESULTS

12-15 Titus Bolt – Ex S’Elance – Bertie Blake

12-50 Colorado Doc – Ringaringarosie

1-25*  O’Hanrahan Bridge

2-00 Runswick Royal – Flowery – Protek Des Flos – Instant Replay – The Paddy Pie

2-35 The Lion Dancer – Carrigmorna Matt – Benechenko – Tractor Fred

3-05* Linelee King – Blazing Port

3-35* Cockney Beau – Universal Folly

(incidence 19 runners in 7 races)

I’ve had a really good look at the form for Sedgefield and only two races standout for me betting wise although there is certainly some things I’ll be checking out in the paddock watch. The two concluding bumpers will be very interesting for future reference and Universal Folly looks a possible bet in the last especially if Blazing Port runs well in the race before as they are on a close line from here LTO. My main focus for the day however is not so much cheering a particular horse as supporting a Northern jockey in his noble attempt to keep tabs on the redoubtable Dickie who has all the cards stacked in his favour as per. Brian Hughes is however only a couple adrift at the top of the leader board as we stand and has six rides at Sedgefield where he often excels. The two in the bumpers are speculative and I’ll be running paddock watch over them. Sonic in the second is solid and a possible play if he is bouncing in the paddock although the shortlist two do perhaps offer better chance in that. Runswick Royal is the sleeper of the day back over fences after a long time off and I’ll definitely be having a look at him with stable in form and a price likely on offer.

The Hughes two on paper however are TITUS BOLT in the first and O’HANRAHAN BRIDGE in the third. The latter is a tad speculative because Dr Newland’s Rostello is a complete unreadable coming over from France with that stable’s record at rejuvenating horses especially when coming to Sedgefield (6-18 here) likely to make him a strong fav. O’Hanrahan Bridge himself looks the part however and I’m keenish on him especially if a value price.

Race of the day is the first however and I could be tempted to shut the satchel if the shortlist gets this one right! Titus Bolt goes up 4lb after Friday for his run LTO when second at Musselburgh 7 days ago. Ran keen in cheekpieces but back in blinkers today, with Hughes on board who rode him to his last win and over further on soft ground which ought to suit. Connections definitely keen as he rarely runs out of Scotland and so long as he handles the track he looks to be primed to win with second in Honourmission having to carry a penalty and also closely matched at the weights with Bertie Blake. Titus Bolt is an 11 year old now and his last hurdles win was five years ago but in a much better race than this. LTO suggested he retains the flat speed which has won him a bunch of races on the level. So long as he doesn’t bounce,he constitutes a solid nap of the day. I will also be playing the shortlist other two as single savers and as a small stakes CSF and Tricast. And like I say, if it comes in, I shall retire gracefully for the rest of the day and take photos with me new camera what the kids have bought me for me birthday! Should I be miles out in the first, I shall probably also punt on O’Hanrahan so long as Rostello doesn’t over sparkle in the paddock. Anyone who wants to ring for gen can do so again (07956124351) but to be fair, this is still very much January racing and about as reliable as the current Government. Stakes will be kept small. I’m there mainly for the fresh air and to see if any future nuggets emerge. Welcome to join me though if you fancy it!
